Oleaje Flamenco presents… Initiation
Initiation: A journey of Des- and Re- Integration through the Flamenco Arts
Flamenco music and dance collide with light, color and sound for an immersive and imaginative retelling of the myth of the Descent of Inanna.
Human history is rich with stories, myths and images about personal transformation and what we can achieve when we face our deepest fears.
In this original work conceived and choreographed by dancer Amelia Moore with original music composed by Jed Miley, the myth of the Descent of Inanna is a vehicle for exploring what it means to give up who we are to make room for who we will become.
Flamenco is an art form of reclamation of identity through suffering and exile, a cry of the joy and pain of human existence that gives strength and solace in its expression. This alchemy of triumph over difficulty can only be achieved when we have the strength to go willingly into our shadow and embrace it.
Created as an immersive theater experience, the emotional and artistic range of flamenco is the means of peeling back the layers of our identity, of embracing the lonely and exiled parts of ourselves, and of bringing them into the light and fullness of our complete being. From Desintegration to Integration, Initiation is an homage to this process of growth and transformation and the collective human lineage of inner wisdom we all share.
Oleaje Flamenco’s Amelia Moore (dance) and Jed Miley (guitar) are joined by very special guest artists Jose Moreno (vocals, percussion & dance), Daniel Azcarate (vocals) Gordon Assadi (violin) and Ahmad Yousefbeigi (Middle Eastern percussion).
